About Sam Vokey…
Sam Vokey has been a professional oil painter for over 25 years, specializing in landscapes and the still life. After graduating from Bowdoin College in Maine, he attended the R.H. Ives Gammel Atelier in Boston for four years. It was a European style atelier, admitting only five students at a time, which enabled trainees to work closely with a master painter to learn the fundamentals of painting still life, landscape, portrait and figurative work.
Today, Vokey’s work reflects his classic training of the Boston School, imbued with the painterly qualities of Impressionism. Working directly from life in natural light, Vokey’s finely tuned technical skills are brought to life by carefully crafted compositions and clean colors. From New England landscapes to the atmospheric still life his work reflects both his love of the outdoors and his craft.
Vokey is an elected member of The Guild Of Boston Artists and has won the designation of Copley Master from the Copley Society of Boston. In 2012, he received the Frank Benson Award at The Guild of Boston Artists for the second time. He also won the R.H.Ives Gammell Award, and in 2009, he won the prestigious Edmund Tarbell Award, an honor given to first prize in painting at the annual All Members event held each spring. At the Copley Society of Boston, he has won numerous awards, including the status of Copley Master; In 2007, Sam was awarded the Copley’s John Singleton Copley Award, the highest honor given by the Copley Society.
Sam Vokey’s work is represented by numerous galleries including the J. Todd Gallery in Wellesley, MA, Tree’s Gallery in Orleans, MA, Powers Gallery in Acton, MA and The Guild of Boston Artists in Boston, MA.
