Teresa Higgins

Teresa Higgins was born in Washington D.C., surrounded by a family of artists where she developed a passion for portraiture. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Secondary Education and minor in English. After moving to Massachusetts, she taught at Boston Latin High School and studied painting and portraiture at Massachusetts College of Art and Back Bay Art Studios. She later studied with nationally acclaimed portrait painter Raymond Kinstler and Daniel Green. In 1974, Teresa began doing commissioned portraits which she creates from observation and photos usually working in either pastel or oil. Over the past 30 years she has exhibited with many art associations, galleries and public institutions including the Copley Society, Cambridge Art Association, Marblehead Art Association, Springfield Art League, the Wilson Gallery in Boston, Swain Gallery in Dover, the Natick courthouse, The Frame Shop Gallery in Natick. Her portraits and paintings hang in private collections in the U.S. as well as in Europe. She is a juried associate member of the Pastel Society of America.

With 30 years of teaching experience, Teresa offers studio art workshops for children, teens and adults. Her students have been accepted at Rhode Island School of Design, the Museum School and Boston University School of Visual Arts.
