Sonia Hale

Award-winning portrait artist, Sonia, is most frequently commissioned in the Boston area, regionally and in the South. Her portraits hang in collections internationally, including one doctor’s portrait commissioned as a posthumous to hang in India. Her portraits have hung in portrait competitions in Georgia and New York, where they received Finalist Awards; thus gaining her national attention and acclaim. She paints official and family portraits, children’s portraits in oil and pastel; as well as landscapes, seascapes and floral paintings. Sonia is a graduate of Colby College in Waterville, Maine, where she double-majored in English and Art. Her painting style was favorably noted upon by her teachers at the Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston, Massachusetts, as well. She studied at the New York Art Students’ League in New York City, as well as at the Copley Society in Boston, Massachusetts, and on a national basis at workshops with famous portrait artists of our time, including Everett Raymond Kinstler, the beloved 91-year old old painter of eight U.S. presidents, who personally mentored her for over 5 years and who’s lineage goes back to John Singer Sargent. Therefore, Sonia is proud to be a third-generation student of John Singer Sargent.
Sonia’s memberships have included of the Portrait Society of America, the National Arts Club of New York, the Portrait Society of Atlanta, Oil Painter’s of America, the Artist’s Fellowship of New York, the Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists and Wellesley Society of Artists. She enjoys events such as the Boston International Fine Art Show, the conference of the Portrait Society of America, Connecticut Society of Portrait Artist events and participating in national portrait events time-permitting. Along with having her portraits displayed in New York and Georgia where they received Finalist awards; she has enjoyed painting in Greenwich, CT for the Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists & Greenwich Art Council’s “Arts to the Avenue,” as well as demonstrating for the Wellesley Society of Artists in Wellesley, MA; and exhibiting works in Greenwich and Westport, CT, and at Page-Waterman Gallery in Wellesley, MA. She has also enjoyed the opportunity to paint in Vermont with the Putney Painters as a guest artist.
