SUMMARY:Art Call for "A Charles River Journey"
DESCRIPTION:The Wellesley Society of Artists and the Dedham Art Association in collaboration with the Charles River Watershed Association\, invite New England area artists to a Call for Art for the early 2027 exhibition\, A Charles River Journey: 80 Artists\, 80 Miles. \nArtists are invited to share their visual impressions of the Charles River—from its meandering natural landscapes to the diverse communities it connects\, and its vital role as both a recreational and ecological resource. Seen through the artist’s eye the flora\, fauna\, people\, and places are reimagined as a lasting record of the environmental and social narratives that define our time. \nThis unique exhibition will bring together artists to foster environmental awareness and give homage to the river as a vital thread connecting us to nature and each other. Eighty works will be selected\, representing the rich and varied life of the Charles River along its full 80-mile journey from Hopkinton to Boston. \nArtists living in New England—both emerging and established—as well as students enrolled in New England universities\, are invited to submit one original two-dimensional work. Accepted media include painting\, drawing\, mixed media/collage\, and printmaking. Eighty artworks will be juried into the exhibit and eligible for over $2500 in cash awards.  \nEXHIBITION LOCATION  \nThe Mosesian Center for the Arts is a multidisciplinary arts venue in Watertown\, Massachusetts. The 30\,000 square foot center\, located within a former U.S. Army arsenal\, houses two theaters\, exhibition galleries\, classrooms\, and rehearsal studios. Mosesian Arts is located six miles from downtown Boston\, borders the Charles River and Brighton\, and is easily accessible from surrounding suburbs and Metro West. DESCRIPTION:WSA exhibiting member and contemporary artist Eddie Bruckner invites the public to experience “The Familiar Reimagined: Artwork by Eddie Bruckner\,” a solo exhibition on view at the Wellesley Free Library\, 530 Washington St.\, Wellesley\, MA 20482\, from September 3 through September 30\, 2026. \nThe public is invited to attend the Artist’s Reception on Wednesday\, September 9\, 2026\, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the artist\, learn about the inspiration behind the paintings\, and enjoy light refreshments while viewing the exhibition. \nThrough bold color\, dynamic composition\, and a contemporary visual language rooted in Pop Art\, Bruckner explores how the images that surround us—from iconic landmarks and everyday objects to symbols of popular culture—become part of our collective memory. His paintings invite viewers to pause and reconsider the familiar\, revealing new stories\, emotions\, and connections within subjects that often go unnoticed. The exhibition’s title\, The Familiar Reimagined\, reflects Bruckner’s artistic approach. DESCRIPTION:Portraits: Here’s Looking at You\nThe WSA is thrilled to announce the opening of its newly created online exhibition space\, the Huntington Gallery. Elizabeth H. T. Huntington (1878–1963) was a vibrant and inspiring member of the Wellesley community. During the Great Depression\, she brought local artists together\, helping establish what became the Wellesley Society of Artists in 1933. This online exhibition gallery\, named in her honor\, celebrates her vision\, creativity\, and remarkable spirit. This gallery space is for both WSA group member exhibitions as well individual member shows. \n  \n \n\n\n  \nEvery portrait is a story told without words. For centuries\, portraiture has been one of our most vital art forms – a way to preserve memory\, honor identity\, and look deeply into the essence of another living being. This show brings together a vibrant tapestry of faces. Together\, these works remind us why portraits remain so deeply loved: they hold a mirror to our own hearts\, celebrating the universal bonds of life. WSA member Kris Shaffer is co hosting at her studio and art space\, Art Oasis (across from Tory Burch) at the Natick Mall.
